David Schneider. The genius behind Barbeau

David Schneider is the mentor of Barbeau and CEO of GPS. Leader and visionary by nature, David opened his (always open) office and shared his point of view and some of his intimacy. It will be worth spending some minutes knowing better The Genius.

Q: First, we want to thank you for your time and say that this is by far the toughest interview we made until now. We know we can easily lose our jobs. (laughs)

Internally, we all know who you are, what kind of leader you are, and the importance of Barbeau for you.
So, we will try to do both, and make sure that people get an idea of the kind of person and CEO you are, without being boring.
We are aware of your great sense of humor so, let us get down to it.
Tell us about your past, career, and people that inspired you along the way. Who is David Schneider?

A: I am a passionate person that loves life, family, work, friends, the beach, the ocean, rugby, basketball, and FC Porto.

I have lived in different countries and worked around the world, namely in China, India, Mozambique, South Africa, Pakistan, Brazil, the USA, and a few more countries.
My father was my first inspiration. My economics teacher, Mr. Holland, was another one. More recently, Phil Keetch, my old boss and friend that taught me that “all glory is fleeting”.

Q: What was the most important thing when you've selected your team, and when you invite new people? What are your main concerns?

A: Recruiting is the most important thing in a company. You hire good people you will do well; You hire bad people, you will do poorly. People are the most important asset in any company. I look for energy, integrity, and culture.

Q: When, how, and why did you decide to develop Barbeau? Which is the importance of sustainability for you?

A: The planet is in trouble, and everybody needs to do something about it. I have four children, and they deserve to live on a good planet as I did. Everybody needs to do a little more every day. Sustainability is top of our agenda.

Q: What are your wishes and perspectives for Barbeau? In what do you wish Barbeau to be different, and how do you see its future?

A: I hope Barbeau will raise awareness and be an example for other brands to take this road.It is difficult but not impossible.

Barbeau also gives an alternative range of products for those who love the sea. We are contributing to maintain and grow a more sustainable supply chain.

Q: What do you wish people to feel when they buy a Barbeau product?

A: I hope that they feel good and enjoy a good quality product, and when they're done with it, send it back to us, so we recycle it.

Q: Ok… Now it is the time when things can lose control (laughs)

If you had a choice between two superpowers, being invisible or flying, which would you choose?

A: Flying, I love to travel.

Q: What was the last gift you gave someone?

A: I bought an almond tart for the family lunch on the weekend, I am on a diet!

Q: What is the color of money?

A: No color. It is electronic today.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where all your food and water needs were taken care of?

A: Books and music.

Q: If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what song would you choose and why?

A: Impossible to pick just one. It depends on my mood! But “Satisfaction”, from Rolling Stones, might be an option!

Q: How do you think people would communicate in a perfect world?

A: They would listen more than they speak.

Q: What advice would you give to your previous boss or any boss if you could?

A: Pick the right people. It is all about the people.

Q: What do you think about when you are alone in a car?

A: I think a lot in the car and have new ideas!

Q: If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or back to the past, and why?

A: To the future to see if the planet is a better place or if we still have to work harder.

Q: Describe the purpose of Barbeau to someone from another planet.

A: Excellent product for you to enjoy while on earth! We are recycling!

Q: If you had to work, but you didn't need the money, what would you do?

A: Probably the same that I do. I love Hometextiles!

David, thank you so much for your time and fair play, and do not bother to send an email saying to pass by human resources. We know the way! (Laughs)
